Indian American astronaut & a United States Navy officer, Sunita Williams, visited Kolkata on the 2nd of April, 2013, as a part of a week long trip to India where she also visited Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmadabad.
The United States Navy officer who holds the record for longest space flight by a woman not only spoke to us but also answered some questions from the inquisitive students in the audience.
An interactive session with Sunita Williams was organised at the Science City Auditorium in Kolkata. Students from different schools in the city, including a group 50 students from our school La Martiniere for Girls, attended the event.
As Commander Sunita Williams took her place on the stage she was warmly welcomed by young enthusiastic students. Students clung on to their seats in excitement as Sunita Williams shared with the crowd her experiences of Expedition 32 & 33.
She also showed us a video of her working in a spacecraft. The video informed us on the life on a spacecraft where Sunita Williams showed us the different features & facilities on a spacecraft. It was like living in a space shuttle for a few minutes!
The United States Navy officer who holds the record for longest space flight by a woman not only spoke to us but also answered some questions from the inquisitive students in the audience.
She patiently answered all our questions and talked about fluid experiments in space to her ambitions as a young girl. We had an illuminating and enriching experience as we got to know a great deal more about space travel, spacecrafts & Sunita Williams.
I really enjoyed the session with Sunita Williams and would like to thank my school, the science club & my teachers- Ma'am Ratuli & Ma'am Mita, for giving me such a wonderful opportunity.
